Email setup

Set up your email on Android (Outlook app)

Add your work email to Microsoft Outlook on an Android phone.

About five minutes. You will need your email address and password, and the settings from Your email settings.

If you do not have Outlook yet, install Microsoft Outlook from the Play Store first.

Steps

  1. Open Outlook.

  2. If this is your first account, tap Add Account. Otherwise tap your profile picture (top left) ‚Üí the settings cog ‚Üí Add Account ‚Üí Add an email account.

  3. Type your full email address and tap Continue.

  4. Outlook will try to detect the settings. When it cannot, it will ask you to choose an account type. Choose IMAP.

  5. Turn on Advanced Settings using the toggle.

  6. Fill in:

    IMAP Incoming Mail Server

    • IMAP Hostname: imap.yourdomain.com
    • IMAP Port: 993
    • Security Type: SSL/TLS
    • IMAP Username: your full email address
    • IMAP Password: your email password

    SMTP Outgoing Mail Server

    • SMTP Hostname: smtp.yourdomain.com
    • SMTP Port: 465
    • Security Type: SSL/TLS
    • SMTP Username: your full email address
    • SMTP Password: your email password
  7. Tap the tick in the top right.

Check it worked

Send yourself an email from another account and reply to it.

If it does not work

Outlook insists on a Microsoft password

You have not switched on Advanced Settings, so Outlook is still trying to treat this as a Microsoft account. Go back and turn the toggle on.

"Cannot connect to server"

Check the hostnames have not autocorrected. Phone keyboards sometimes capitalise the first letter — Imap.yourdomain.com will not work.

Sending fails

The SMTP username and password are blank. Outlook does not always carry them across from the incoming section, and they are required.
