Your email settings
The server names, ports and encryption to use when setting up your email anywhere.
Every guide here uses the same settings. Whichever app you are setting up, these are the values it will ask for.
Replace yourdomain.com with your own domain: the part of your email
address after the @ symbol. If your address is jo@example.co.uk, your
incoming server is imap.example.co.uk.
Before you start, check the password works. Sign in at webmail.confluxus.co.uk with your full email address. If it lets you in, the password is right and anything that fails later is a setting, not the password. See Read your email in a web browser.
Incoming mail (IMAP)
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | imap.yourdomain.com |
| Port | 993 |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS |
| Username | your full email address |
| Password | your email password |
Outgoing mail (SMTP)
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | smtp.yourdomain.com |
| Port | 465 |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS |
| Username | your full email address |
| Password | your email password |
| Authentication | Required |
Both servers need your username and password. Some apps assume outgoing mail does not need a login and leave those boxes blank. If your mail receives but will not send, this is almost always why.
Why IMAP and not POP3
IMAP keeps your mail on the server, so every device sees the same thing. Read a message on your phone and it shows as read on your laptop too. Delete it in one place and it goes everywhere.
POP3 downloads mail onto one device and, depending on the settings, removes it from the server. Read something on your laptop and your phone may never see it. We recommend IMAP unless you have a specific reason not to.
If you must use POP3, the server is pop3.yourdomain.com on port 995 with
SSL.
If your app refuses SSL
Non-encrypted ports exist — IMAP 143, POP3 110, SMTP 25 or 587 — but
they send your password across the internet unprotected. Use them only if
something genuinely will not work otherwise, and tell us if that happens so we
can look at it.
If imap.yourdomain.com is not found
A handful of domains have their DNS somewhere other than with us, and the
imap. and smtp. names may not exist there. Use imap.confluxus.co.uk and
smtp.confluxus.co.uk instead — same servers, same ports, same password.
